The shift tool

Push, pull, snow days and early releases, with a preview and undo.

Open it with ⇄ Shift on the week view, from a lesson’s menu, or from the heads-up rail when the school calendar changes.

What it can do

  • Push a lesson, a class or a whole day to the next meeting, by one or more meetings, or to a date.
  • Pull lessons back to fill a gap. A pull never deletes a lesson; anything that would fall off goes to the backlog.
  • Absorb a snow day: every class on that day moves to its next meeting, following your closure rule.
  • Change a day’s pattern (an early release): classes that lose their block move; classes with a shorter block keep their lesson, and you can push them too.
  • Swap two lessons, and extend a lesson to a second day.

The preview

Before anything moves you see every lesson with its old and new date, grouped by class. Untick a lesson to keep it where it is; choose how far the change goes (everything after, through a date, or to the end of the week); stop at the end of the marking period. “Worth knowing” lists shortened blocks, boundaries and pins.

Quick keys

On the week view, select a lesson and press ] to push it or [ to pull it. Press / and type “push math to Monday”.

Undo

Every shift is one change. Undo it from the toast, or later from History, as long as the lessons have not been moved again since (History says which have).
