Rotations and the closure rule
A/B days, six-day cycles, and what a snow day does to the letter.
A rotation says which day pattern each school day follows. Weekly: Mondays are Mondays. A/B: days alternate. Cycle: Day 1 to Day N, skipping weekends and holidays. Each cycle day can carry labels (Katie’s Day 1 is also a “B” day for Social Studies).
Holidays never use up a letter
A planned no-school day (Labor Day, Thanksgiving) is skipped: the day after it takes the next letter, as if the holiday were a weekend.
Closures: your district’s rule
An unplanned closure, a snow day, is where districts differ, so TeachDay asks:
- Advance (the default): the next school day takes the letter the snow day would have had. Nothing is lost; everything slides.
- Fixed: letters are tied to dates. The snow day’s letter is lost, and the next day keeps its own.
Set it in Setup, on the rotation step. When you absorb a snow day with the shift tool, the preview shows what the rule does to every class.
A new timetable mid-year
Add a new rotation starting on the date it changes. Lessons from that date flow on the new one; earlier weeks keep the old one.
